ROOFING OPTIONS:

“Tear-off” roof (also known as strip and felt)
A “tear-off” is when all of the old shingles and underlayment from your roof are stripped off and hauled away.  By having a “tear-off” done, it allows Ferguson to inspect for damage on the roof deck, valleys, eaves, as well as to properly replace all flashings.   New underlayment, including ice and water shield at problem areas, are then applied under your new shingles.  This creates a better long-term investment for you, the home owner.

Reroof
A “reroof” is when the existing layer of shingles are left and new shingles are applied over the existing layer.  Reroofing is only an option if you have a single existing layer because the weight of a third layer can cause long term damage and is against building code.  While a reroof might be slightly less expensive, you don’t have the advantage of inspecting the condition of the roof deck or any other areas for damage or areas of concern.

Flat Roof, Modified Bitumen
Modified bitumen roofing is an asphalt-based solution designed for buildings with low-slope or “flat” roof structures.  The “rolled” roofing application allows for less seams and a better surface to handle slow water shedding and snow loads.  Be wary of other types of rolled asphalt roofing, as many are cheaper and not nearly as long lasting as modified bitumen.
